I am not someone who gives myself time. For as long as I can remember (childhood included), I have been busy. Busy, consumed with study, friends, family, relationships, fitness, life; squeezing in as much as I possibly could and often afraid of the silence or empty diary. I have always had an open mind and interest in alternative treatments, meditation, Yoga,… you name it, but I never stuck with them despite the god intentions. I was apprehensive, only because the idea of focusing on me for almost 2 days felt alien and, quite frankly, made me uncomfortable. On the whole, I am a private person and whilst I share with my loved ones and friends, I keep a lot to myself and in my own head. And I had no idea what to expect or what would happen but wanted to try, at this point I wanted to try anything to understand how I had got here, how my decisions had lead to this and the big question… what makes me happy when there is no iPhone reminders, what’s app messages and entries in my Google Calendar. I walked in the beautiful, calm environment they had created and was struck by a smell of delicious citrus, and the quiet. It was like walking into a lovely cuddle. The natural light that poured through all the windows throughout the house, the whole setting gave a sense of space and time, and no expectations. First off, we had a cup of tea ad chat. Nothing intense. We talked about what I expected, did not expected, wanted, preferred which gave me the immediate sense tis was about me, made for me, not what they thought would be best or me. Many retreats I have researched or heard about often provide deep meditations, treatments, therapies, but they often do so in a structured and regimented fashion, like the leaders know what you need more than you do. This is a retreat created for what you need, in that moment, for your life. The first meditation was less full on than I anticipated. Janie obviously has deep experience of meditation and I was grateful to be lead by her, though she has the great humility to offer others to lead, or to be not guided at all. I was surprised by how easy it was to go engage with. You have time to do what you want whether it is a bath, read, meditate, talk, walk alone, sleep. I realise how little in life are we given this, or that people give that to you. This retreat set me on a journey I have always strived to be on, I shared, reflected, discussed. All of which felt natural and safe. I have searched for retreats for years, and finally found a space for me to set off in a new chapter in my life. For once, I breathed and stopped and listened.

“What an amazing experience I had at Janie’s retreat. I stayed on her overnight retreat which was simply wonderful! I had a very warm welcome from Janie, who then showed me to the garden flat so I could unpack and make myself feel at home, which I certainly did for the whole time of my visit. The flat was beautiful and cozy and the bed was sooo comfy. Homemade Granola which was delicious along with fresh fruit coconut yogurt and a fresh filberts loaf. Fresh coffee milk and all the essentials were provided. Janie’s cooking was absolutely delicious, obviously made with a lot of love. I have had Reiki many times before but I can honestly say that was the best experience of a healing session of Reiki I’ve ever had, and I’ll definitely be going back for more. The meditations were so calming and relaxing. I could go on and on but in short the whole experience was the best ever, and I can highly recommend Janie’s retreat if like me your just looking for somewhere to escape, spend time with yourself and just simply “BE” Thank you Janie it was a pleasure meeting you and I hope to see you again in the near future”
